Children's Educational & Welfare Support 2024

Children's Educational & Welfare Support 2024

The Challenge

In Sri Lanka’s plantation regions and war-affected northern districts, over 15,000 children live in orphanages or informal care homes. Many lack access to quality education, nutritious meals, and emotional support. The economic crisis has worsened school dropout rates, with children as young as 8 working to support their families instead of attending school.

Our Impact

Through partnerships with 12 orphanages and 30 village-level child development centers, we have:

  • Distributed 5,000+ school packs (notebooks, pens, uniforms) to children in Nuwara Eliya, Batticaloa, and Mullaitivu.
  • Provided daily nutritional supplements to 800 children in care homes, reducing malnutrition rates by 35% in six months.
  • Launched weekly “Child Friendly Spaces” with art therapy and life skills training, reaching 1,200 children.
  • Trained 150 caregivers on trauma-informed practices, benefiting 2,500 vulnerable children.
